What: Shades Crest Showdown Bouldering Competition

Cost: $35 competitor fee

($30 pre-registration prior to event at First Avenue Rocks)

WHY? Raise money for anchor replacement and repair at various Alabama and Tennessee climbing areas.

Competition details

Bouldering Competition on Saturday with registration starting at 9AM at the trail entrance. Competition from 10AM-4PM. From here we will take it over to First Avenue Rocks for the awards ceremony (directions provided at competition).

Over $2000 in prizes to be given away to top 3 in each category.

Categories

Open (V8-V12)- Co-Ed category. For the unknown strong man or local with the place on lockdown.

Advanced* (V6-V9)- Mens and Womens category. Just started to feel strong? Test your metal against the other 9-5ers to see whose weekends have paid off.

Intermediate* (V3-V6) Mens and Womens category. Always the place with the most competition. The level that is project mode for the majority of climbers.

Recreational (V0-V2) CO-ED category. New to the sport or just like having a ton of fun, this is the level that results in the bloodiest tips with this group always giving it up.

Stone Slayer (V0-V12) CO-ED category category. A test of skin and strength. Complete as many problems as humanly possible.

Kids- (10 and under) CO- ED- for the up and coming to put fear in those who feel they are strong.

Has Been (V0-V12)- CO-ED category. For those age 40 to 50 who still puts it down on the

Curt (V0-V12)- CO-ED category. For those age 50+ whose fingers still prefer the curl around the stone or a cool beverage rather than a cane. Named in memory of Curt Johnson. I hope there is a ton of trash talk with this group. Curt Johnson bonus points for climbing without chalk. Take part in his honor.

*NOTE: MENS AND WOMENS will be CO-ED if there isn’t at least 5 in the category.

CATEGORY will be eliminated if there aren’t at least 5 in the category.


Format:

Endurance format. No limit on amount of problems as long as they fall in your grade range (example open can only count problems V8-V12).

Food:

AT THE BOULDERS:

BBQ in the boulders at noon provided for competitors ($5 for non competitors).

FIRST AVENUE ROCKS AWARDS CEREMONY

Sodas and snacks provided.

Bring $3 for high gravity beverage from Birmingham’s best microbrew Good People. All proceeds go to the Alabama Bouldering Fund.
